Edward leaves Bella in this follow up to twilight and as Bella's relationship with Jacob develops, she discovers he has a secret also.

New Moon begins with a surprise party for Bella’s 18th birthday at the Cullen’s house. Sadly, the party ends badly and this leads to Edward dumping Bella, and the entire Cullen family leaving Forks. Starring Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan), Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black).

New Moon Overview

After the Cullens leave Forks and Bella behind, Bella is devastated and spends months in a sort of half existence, shunning her friends and social activities. Eventually her father, at his wits end, threatens to send Bella to live with her mother in Jacksonville. This prompts Bella to make an effort and she soon starts hanging around with Jacob Black.

Jacob, who is in love with Bella, fixes up two motorbikes Bella had purchased and as soon as she rides one, Bella realizes that whenever she performs an activity that could risk her life, she sees Edward, or rather, a vision of Edward.

While Bella and Jacob become very close, she still yearns for Edward and continues to put her life in danger for a brief glimpse of her vampire beau. Bella’s life is in danger when Victoria comes searching for her. When Edward believes that Bella is dead, he goes to the Volturi.

New Moon Review

New Moon is a superior film to Twilight and this is mostly due to the addition of werewolves and the spooky vampires, The Volturi. Special effects themselves surpass those in the first film, as does most of the acting. There is a series of young, good-looking young men taking their shirts off, which doesn’t hurt the film any.

While still geared towards a younger female audience, New Moon is not as ‘soppy’ as twilight. The movie is true to the book for the most part, which will please fans of the novels, and viewers will find the film more fast paced than its predecessor.

Pattinson takes a bit of a back seat in this movie, allowing Lautner to expand his role as the sensitive new age hunk. Stewart does well in portraying the heartbroken young girl, that viewers, female viewers at least, will sympathize with and relate too. Overall a decent film, fans of the book will enjoy, and with enough werewolves and eye candy that non-fans should enjoy also.
